LGBT stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are programs which address the unique needs of these clients. Individuals who are LGBT can often feel alone, not understood, and considered socially depraved. This is often a very hard or painful existence, and leads many LGBT individuals to a life of drug use to numb this pain. Somebody who is LGBT might not feel at ease inside a conventional rehab facility amongst individuals who aren't experiencing the same challenges they may be experiencing of their lives. A LGBT program provides an environment which can be free from judgment, where LGBT clients can be completely comfortable and safe divulging to their peers and treatment counselors issues which need to be resolved in order to get better. Rehabilitation counselors in a LGBT rehab will help clients fix relationships with their family members, in the event their loved ones disagree with their sexual preference as is often the case. This situation is certainly a frequent trigger for drug use, and is a good example of something which would be resolved in rehabilitation. LGBT clients often would like to be accepted in their lives, and rehabilitation will help them accept themselves and create confidence to enable them to lead a wholesome life clear of alcohol and drugs.
