Criminal justice client rehabs are available being a far better option than prison time or heavy fines for individuals who have been convicted of any type of alcohol or drug related crime. For example, anyone who has been in prison for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs may be eligible to obtain treatment services for their problem as opposed to serving time in jail. The judge may even order the individual receive treatment, either alone or together with other consequences. First-time offenders in particular in many cases are given the opportunity to go with a criminal justice client rehab instead of other sentencing, and it is highly recommended that they benefit from it if it is an option. The theory behind criminal justice client rehabs is that it is way more effective and efficient to invest time and energy into treatment than enforcement of other consequences. Much research has been carried out to see how effective this strategy is on recidivism rates, i.e. if the individual returns or not to criminal justice system following rehab. All indicators seem to be quite positive, and criminal justice clients that do experience treatment have better possibility of remaining out of the judicial system after rehab.
