Individuals who would like to maintain some flexibility within their lives can take advantage of an outpatient rehab when they need treatment for drug or alcohol abuse. Outpatient rehab will allow for the rehab client to take part in treatment services with the same commitment you might usually have to agree to within an inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility. This doesn't always work in the treatment client's favor however, particularly for those clients who need to solve significant substance abuse issues. So even though an outpatient rehab might appear to be a convenient option, it isn't for everyone. People who decide on an outpatient rehab will generally show up at meetings and be a part of counseling and treatment services part-time every day or a few days a week. This can be very helpful for those who have just completed a much more extensive inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or maintenance step, or for someone with just a brief history of substance abuse which is usually a really small percentage of clients. For someone with more significant addiction and dependency problems, inpatient or residential drug rehab centers that provide treatment on a long-term basis will be the more advantageous rehabilitation choice.
