Offering gender-specific rehab services has proven worthwhile in circumstances where conventional rehabilitation settings have fallen short, like dealing with situations in a women's life which can be unique and painful. Such difficulties may pertain to sexual abuse, physical trauma, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family and motherhood, or another significant issues which can be particular to women. Research has shown that women may also become involved in abusing drugs more readily than men, and so are more vulnerable to illness as a result of dependency issues than males consequently. Because of obligations in the home, women also tend to postpone searching for and receiving treatment, a situation which can lead to catastrophe. Being mindful of this, treatment services for women are created in order that a women's needs will be the concentration and priority. Similar to coed programs, alcohol and drug treatment centers that offer rehab solutions to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a starting point. After this step, counselors help women concentrate on both basic and gender-specific issues which may have triggered their drug or alcohol use. Women also benefit from the positive support from other female peers, and a few programs which provide rehab services to women also provide client beds for their young children.
