A group home for a person who has been involved in alcohol and drug abuse is a facility which offers continuous support and assistance for people in recovery. A group home is typically for troubled youth, but there are also group homes for individuals with a mental health disorder or who are experiencing behavioral trouble for example. As an alternative to sending individuals who are being affected by substance abuse or recovering from substance abuse to an orphanage, asylum or another similar place, a group home can help provide an acceptable environment to help individuals maintain stability in their lives and still have counsel and assistance at their fingertips around the clock. Residents in a group home might be involved in treatment services during residence, or might be taking steps to get their life setup outside the group home in order to at some time live on their own away from the group home. As an example, a troubled youth who's been in recovery or has recovered from drug abusedrug use can work on getting their GED or obtain employment. A group home is definitely not a long-term or permanent option, but it's a practical temporary option for individuals who are trying to get their lives back together again.
