Dual diagnosis rehabs are facilities which deliver treatment to address both addiction and mental health concerns at the same time. Dual diagnosis is a very common circumstance for those involved in drug abuse, as individuals with mental health problems often medicate themselves with drugs and alcohol to experience some type of short-term respite from their disorder. Providing a safe and secure setting is vital so that dual diagnosis clients can feel comfortable and remain undistracted from circumstances which could cut across their treatment plan and advancement. Treatment counselors will work to identify environmental factors in the client's life such as negative relationships or other things which have to be addressed in order for the individual to stay mentally healthy and abstinen t when they leave dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also reap the benefits of behavioral treatment which will help them develop more efficient coping mechanisms so they are able to better handle life situations more proficiently when they depart dual diagnosis rehab rather than turning to drugs as an inferior answer.
