LGBT means lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are programs which address the unique needs of these clients. Individuals who are LGBT can often feel alone, not understood, and viewed as socially depraved. This may be a very difficult or painful existence, and leads many LGBT individuals to a life of drug use to numb this pain. Someone who is LGBT might not feel comfortable in a traditional rehabilitation facility amongst individuals who aren't experiencing the same problems they may be experiencing of their lives. A LGBT program offers an environment which is free of judgment, where LGBT clients can be completely safe and comfortable divulging to their peers and rehabilitation counselors problems which need to be handled so that they can recover. Rehabilitation counselors within a LGBT rehab will help clients fix relationships with their loved ones, in case their loved ones disagree with their sexual preference as is often the case. This circumstance is an extremely common trigger for substance abuse, and it is a good example of something which will be resolved in rehabilitation. LGBT clients often just want to be accepted within their lives, and rehabilitation will help them accept themselves and create confidence so that they can lead a wholesome life clear of drugs and alcohol.
