A group home for a person who has tbeen involved with drug and alcohol abuse is a facility which offers continual support and assistance for individuals in recovery. A group home is typically for troubled youth, but additionally, there are group homes for people with a mental health disorder or who are encountering behavioral problems for example. As an alternative to sending individuals who are being affected by substance abuse or recovering from drug abuse to an orphanage, asylum or other similar place, a group home can help provide an appropriate environment to help individuals maintain stability in their lives and still have counsel and support within reach around the clock. People who reside inside a group home may be involved in treatment services whilst in residence, or may be taking steps to get their life setup outside the group home to enable them to at some point live independently not in the group home. For example, a troubled youth who's been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can work on getting their GED or obtain work. A group home is not necessarily a long-term or permanent solution, but it's a feasible short-term option for individuals who want to get their lives back together again.
