Offering gender-specific treatment services has shown to be very useful in circumstances where traditional rehabilitation facilities have not meet expectations, such as coping with situations inside a women's life which can be unique and traumatic. Such issues may have to do with sexual abuse, physical trauma, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and motherhood, or any other serious issues which are specific to women. Research shows that women also can get embroiled in drug abuse more easily than men, and so are more vulnerable to sickness as a consequence of dependency problems than males as a result. Because of responsibilities in their home, women also tend to postpone searching for and receiving treatment, a circumstance which can be a catalyst for catastrophe. With this in mind, treatment services for women are created in order that a women's needs will be the focus and priority. Just like coed rehabs, drug treatment centers which offer treatment solutions to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a first step. After this step, counselors help women concentrate on both basic and gender specific problems which may have induced their substance abuse.
