LGBT stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are programs which address the unique needs of these clients. Those who are LGBT can feel alone, not understood, and seen as socially unwanted. This is sometimes an extremely tough or painful existence, and leads many LGBT individuals to a life of drug abuse to alleviate these feelings. Someone that is LGBT might not exactly feel relaxed inside a conventional rehab program amongst individuals who aren't experiencing the same problems they are experiencing of their lives. A LGBT center provides an environment which is free from judgment, where LGBT clients can be completely safe and comfortable divulging to their peers and rehabilitation counselors problems which should be handled in order to recover. Rehab counselors in a LGBT rehab will help clients repair relationships with their family, in case their family disagree with their sexual choice as is generally the case. This situation is an extremely frequent trigger for abusing drugs, and is also an illustration of an issue that could be handled in treatment. LGBT clients often only want to be accepted in their lives, and treatment will help them accept themselves and build confidence to be able to lead a healthy life free of drugs and alcohol.
