Offering gender-specific treatment services has shown to be worthwhile in circumstances where conventional rehab facilities have not meet expectations, including coping with situations in a women's life that happen to be unique and distressing. Such issues may have to do with sexual abuse, physical trauma, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and being a mother, and other significant issues which can be specific to women. Research has shown that women also can get involved in drug abuse more readily than men, and so are more vulnerable to illness because of dependency issues than males as a result. Due to responsibilities in their home, women also tend to put off looking for and receiving treatment, a circumstance which can lead to catastrophe.
