Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has proven very useful in situations where standard rehab facilities have not meet expectations, for example dealing with situations within a women's life which can be unique and traumatic. Such difficulties may have to do with sexual abuse, physical abuse, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and being a mother, or another serious issues which can be specific to women. Research has revealed that women also can get embroiled in drug abuse more readily than men, and are more vulnerable to illness as a consequence of drug abuse issues than males because of this. Because of obligations in the home, women also tend to postpone trying to find and receiving treatment, a situation which can lead to catastrophe. Being mindful of this, treatment services for women are designed so that a women's needs would be the concentration and priority. Similar to coed programs, alcohol and drug rehabilitation centers which provide rehabilitation services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a first step. After this step, counselors help women give attention to both standard and gender-specific concerns who have prompted their drug or alcohol use. Women also enjoy the constructive support from other female peers, and some programs that provide rehab services to women provide client beds for her children.
