Hearing impaired individuals tend to have a heightened risk of drug abuse issues because of their impairment, and rehab services should be available to them which serves their needs. People who are hearing impaired can seem to be alone, lack motivation, and be without goals because of their impairment. Many hearing impaired individuals then elect to self medicate with alcohol or drugs to numb this pain and experience a temporary release from the emotional and psychological problems that accompany possessing this handicap in daily life.
