LGBT means lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are programs which address the unique needs of these clients. Those who are LGBT can often feel alone, misunderstood, and considered socially depraved. This is sometimes a very hard or painful way to live, and leads many LGBT individuals to a lifestyle of drug abuse to alleviate this pain. Someone that is LGBT may not feel at ease inside a traditional treatment facility amongst people who aren't experiencing the same problems they may be experiencing within their lives. A LGBT program provides an environment that is totally free of judgment, where LGBT clients can feel completely safe and comfortable revealing to their peers and treatment counselors issues which need to be handled so that they can get well. Rehabilitation counselors within a LGBT rehab will help clients repair relationships with their family, in the case their family disagree with their sexual preference as is often the case. This situation is certainly a common trigger for drug abuse, and it is an example of a thing that will be handled in rehabilitation. LGBT clients often simply want to be accepted within their lives, and rehabilitation will help them accept themselves and create confidence to be able to lead a healthy life clear of drugs and alcohol.
