Individuals who wish to maintain some flexibility within their lives can take advantage of an outpatient rehab when they need rehab for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab makes it possible for the rehab client to participate in rehabilitation services with the same commitment one would ordinarily have to consent to within an inpatient or residential drug treatment center. This doesn't always work in the rehabilitation client's favor however, particularly for those clients who need to resolve significant drug abuse problems. So even though an outpatient rehab might appear to be a convenient option, it isn't for everybody. Those who do choose an outpatient rehab will generally show up at meetings and take part in therapy and treatment services on a part-time basis on a daily basis or several days weekly. This is very helpful for many who have just completed an even more comprehensive inpatient or residential program as a good aftercare or maintenance step, or someone with just a short history of drug use which is usually a really small amount of clients. For a person with more severe drug abuse and dependency problems, inpatient or residential drug and alcohol treatment centers that provide treatment on a long-term basis are going to be the more beneficial rehab option.
