Sadly, it's true that millions of people choose to drive a vehicle while intoxicated by drugs or alcohol. Doing so not simply puts one's life in danger and puts passengers among others in danger as well, but being caught driving drunk (DUI) or driving while intoxicated (DWI) will usually result in severe penalties including driver's license suspension or cancellation, fines and in many cases incarceration. Often times anyone who has been found guilty of DUI or DWI ultimately struggles with an underlying drug abuse problem. The court system understands this, and is therefore inclined to provide DUI and DWI Offenders drug rehabilitation instead of other severe penalties because of their crime. Agreeing or obliging to take part in drug and alcohol rehab as a DUI/DWI Offender may not completely eliminate other consequences of the crime, but could decrease the severity of such consequences to some great extent. Specifically if the person willingly participates drug and alcohol rehab and is also a first-time offender. Studies show that lots of those who do receive drug and alcohol rehabilitation for a DUI/DWI offense avoid the court system for similar charges in the future.
