A group home for a person who has been involved in alcohol and drug abuse is a place which offers continuous support and assistance for individuals in recovery. A group home is usually for troubled youth, but there are also group homes for folks with a mental health disorder or who are experiencing behavioral trouble for example. Rather than sending those who are experiencing drug abusedrug use or recovering from substance abuse to an orphanage, asylum and other similar place, a group home might help provide an acceptable environment to help individuals maintain stability in their lives and still have counsel and support within reach around the clock. Residents in a group home could possibly be involved in treatment services whilst in residence, or could be taking actions to get their life setup outside of the group home so that they can at some point live independently not in the group home. For instance, a troubled youth that has been in recovery or has recovered from drug abusedrug use can try to get their GED or acquire work. A group home is definitely not a long-term or permanent option, but it's a feasible short-term option for individuals who want to get their lives back together.
