Dual diagnosis rehabs are facilities which deliver rehabilitation to address both addiction and mental health concerns at the same time. Dual diagnosis is an extremely prevalent situation for people involved in substance abuse, as individuals with mental health problems often medicate themselves with drugs and alcohol to to feel some kind of short-term respite from their disorder. In a dual diagnosis rehab, rehab professionals will help individuals using a comprehensive treatment plan all targeted at restoring and stabilizing mental, emotional and physical health while also addressing substance abuse issues. Providing a safe setting is key to ensure that dual diagnosis clients can be comfortable and remain undistracted from circumstances which may compromise their program and progress. Rehab counselors will continue to work to recognize environmental factors in the client's life such as negative relationships or any other things which have to be addressed in order for the individual to remain mentally stable and abstinen t after they leave dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also reap the benefits of behavioral treatment which helps them develop far better coping mechanisms so that they are able to better handle life situations more proficiently after they leave dual diagnosis rehab as opposed to turning to drugs and alcohol as an inferior option.
