Dual diagnosis rehabs are facilities which provide treatment to address both addiction and mental health issues concurrently. Dual diagnosis is a very prevalent situation for individuals involved in drug and alcohol abuse, as individuals with mental health problems often medicate themselves with alcohol and drugs to experience some form of temporary respite from their disorder. In a dual diagnosis rehab, treatment counselors will help individuals using a thorough rehabilitation plan all aimed at restoring and stabilizing mental, emotional and physical health whilst addressing drug abuse issues. Providing a safe environment is key to ensure dual diagnosis clients can feel comfortable and remain free from distraction from things that may cut across their treatment plan and advancement. Rehab counselors will work to spot environmental issues in the client's life including negative people in their lives or any other things that should be addressed in order for the individual to stay mentally healthy and sober t when they depart dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral rehab that helps them develop more effective coping methods so that they are better able to deal with life situations well once they leave dual diagnosis rehab as opposed to returning to alcohol and drugs as an inferior option.
