Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has proven worthwhile in situations where traditional rehabilitation settings have not meet expectations, for example coping with situations in a women's life which are unique and distressing. Such concerns may pertain to sexual abuse, physical abuse, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family and being a mother, or any other significant issues which are specific to women. Research shows that women can also get involved in drug use more readily than men, and therefore are more vulnerable to illness as a consequence of addiction issues than males because of this. Because of duties in their home, women also tend to postpone looking for and receiving treatment, a circumstance which can be a catalyst for catastrophe. Being mindful of this, treatment services for women are designed so that a women's needs will be the focus and priority. Similar to coed rehabs, drug rehab centers that offer rehabilitation solutions to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a first step. After this step, counselors help women target both common and gender specific concerns which may have triggered their drug abuse. Women also utilize the beneficial support from their female peers, and some programs that provide rehab services to women also provide client beds for their young children.
