Offering gender-specific treatment services has shown to be beneficial in situations where conventional treatment settings have not meet expectations, including dealing with situations within a women's life which are unique and traumatic. Such concerns may pertain to sexual abuse, physical trauma, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and being a mother, or any other serious issues which are specific to women. Studies show that women could also get embroiled in substance abuse more easily than men, and therefore are more predisposed to illness as a consequence of addiction problems than males because of this. Because of duties in their home, women also tend to postpone looking for and receiving care for addiction, a situation which can lead to catastrophe. Being mindful of this, rehab services for women are designed so that a women's needs are the concentration and priority. Comparable to coed rehabs, alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs that provide rehabilitation solutions to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a first step. After this step, counselors help women target both common and gender specific problems which may have brought on their substance abuse. Women also benefit from the constructive support from other female peers, plus some programs which offer rehab services to women also provide client beds for their young children.
