LGBT means lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are programs which address the unique needs of these clients. Individuals who are LGBT can often feel alone, not understood, and considered socially unwanted. This can be a very hard or painful way to live, and leads many LGBT people to a life of drug abuse to numb these feelings. Somebody that is LGBT may not feel comfortable in a conventional treatment program amongst individuals who aren't experiencing the same challenges they are experiencing in their lives. A LGBT facility provides an environment that is free from judgment, where LGBT clients can be completely comfortable and safe divulging to their peers and rehab counselors issues which should be resolved in order to get well. Treatment counselors within a LGBT rehab can help clients repair relationships with their family members, in the case their loved ones disagree with their sexual choice as is often the case. This circumstance is an extremely common trigger for drug use, and is an example of a thing that will be handled in rehabilitation. LGBT clients often just want to be accepted in their lives, and treatment will help them accept themselves and build confidence to enable them to lead a healthy life clear of drugs and alcohol.
