Hearing impaired individuals generally have a greater probability of substance abuse issues because of the impairment, and rehabilitation services have to be at hand which serves their circumstances. People who are hearing impaired can seem to be isolated, unmotivated, and be without goals for their impairment. Some hearing impaired individuals then elect to self medicate with alcohol or drugs to numb this pain and have a temporary release from the psychological and emotional challenges that accompany possessing this handicap in daily life.
