Criminal justice client rehabs are available as a considerably better option than incarceration or heavy fines for those who have been convicted of any type of alcohol or drug related crime. For instance, a person who has been in prison for driving while impaired of drugs or alcohol may be eligible to receive rehab services for his or her problem rather than serving time in jail. The judge could even order the individual receive rehabilitation, either alone or in addition to other sentencing. New offenders in particular tend to be given the opportunity choose a criminal justice client rehab as opposed to other sentencing, and it is well-advised they benefit from it when it is an option. The idea behind criminal justice client rehabs is that it is way more effective and efficient to invest time and effort into treatment than enforcement of other consequences. Much research has been completed to see how effective this process is on recidivism rates, i.e. if the criminal justice client returns or not to criminal justice system following rehab. All indicators seem to be quite positive, and criminal justice clients that do experience treatment have a better possibility of remaining out of the system following rehab.
