A group home for a person who has been involved in alcohol and drug abuse is a place which offers continual support and help for those in recovery. A group home is usually for troubled adolescents, but there are also group homes for individuals with a mental health problem or who are encountering behavioral difficulties for example. As an alternative to sending those who are struggling with drug abusedrug use or recovering from drug abuse to an orphanage, asylum or any other similar facility, a group home may help provide an acceptable environment to help maintain stability within their lives and also have counsel and support within reach 24/7. People who reside in the group home may be involved in treatment services whilst in residence, or could be taking measures to get their life set up outside the group home so that they can at some time live independently not in the group home. As an example, a troubled youth who's been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can try to get their GED or acquire employment. A group home is not necessarily a long-term or permanent solution, but it is a sensible short term option for many who are attempting to get their lives back together.
