Dual diagnosis rehabs are programs which deliver rehabilitation to address both addiction and mental health issues at the same time. Dual diagnosis is an extremely prevalent situation for those involved with substance abuse, as people with mental health problems often medicate themselves with drugs and alcohol to experience some sort of short-term respite from their disorder. Within a dual diagnosis rehab, rehab counselors will help individuals through a detailed treatment plan all aimed at restoring and replenishing mental, emotional and physical health as well as addressing substance abuse problems. Providing a safe and secure environment is key to ensure that dual diagnosis clients can be at ease and remain undistracted from circumstances that may compromise their program and development. Treatment counselors will continue to work to identify environmental factors in the client's life including negative relationships or other things which have to be addressed in order for the individual to be mentally healthy and abstinen t after they leave dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral rehab which helps them develop more effective coping methods so they are better able to handle life circumstances well after they leave dual diagnosis rehab instead of returning to drugs and alcohol as an inferior solution.
