Criminal justice client rehabs are available as being a considerably better option than incarceration or significant fines for individuals who have already been convicted of any kind of alcohol or drug related crime. For example, someone who has been in prison for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs may be eligible for rehab services for their problem as an alternative to serving time in prison. The judge may even order that the individual receive rehabilitation, either alone or along with other consequences. First time offenders in particular are often given the opportunity to choose a criminal justice client rehab instead of other sentencing, and it is highly recommended they benefit from it if it is an option. The idea behind criminal justice client rehabs is it is much more efficient and effective to invest time and energy into treatment than punishment. Much research has been completed to find out how effective this strategy is on recidivism rates, i.e. if the criminal justice client returns or not to criminal justice system following treatment. All indicators seem quite positive, and criminal justice clients that do experience rehabilitation have a much better chance of remaining out of the judicial system after rehab.
