Dual diagnosis rehabs are facilities which deliver treatment to deal with both addiction and mental health concerns simultaneously. Dual diagnosis is an extremely common situation for individuals involved in substance abuse, as people who have mental health issues frequently medicate themselves with drugs and alcohol to to feel some type of short-term respite from their disorder. Within a dual diagnosis rehab, treatment counselors will help people through a comprehensive rehab plan all aimed at restoring and stabilizing mental, emotional and physical health whilst addressing alcohol and drug abuse issues. Providing a safe and secure setting is essential so that dual diagnosis clients can feel comfortable and remain free from distraction from things that could cut across their program and advancement. Rehabilitation counselors will continue to work to recognize environmental issues in the client's life including negative relationships or other things that need to be addressed in order for the individual to be mentally healthy and abstinen t once they leave dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral rehabilitation which helps them develop far better coping mechanisms so they are able to better handle life situations better if they leave dual diagnosis rehab as opposed to returning to alcohol and drugs as a possible solution.
