Being diagnosed with HIV/AIDS may trigger drug or alcohol use, or risky sexual conduct because of drug abuse could have caused the individual to contract the sickness. People who have HIV/AIDS, either due to their drug use or as a pre-existing problem before their substance abuse issue, typically require rehabilitation services tailored to meet their particular needs and problems. Many of these problems are physical in nature, due to the fact that substance abusers with HIV/AIDS very rarely care for themselves and take the appropriate medicines they need to preserve their health. As a result, they arrive to rehabilitation in very poor health and this will have to be addressed as a priority while addressing other critical concerns. In addition to the obvious necessity to deliver medical solutions whilst in treatment, those that have HIV/AIDS will also need to tackle deeper problems which prompted their alcohol or drug use. Usually, people have conditions within their lives that are strictly environmental which may have caused them to use alcohol or drugs, including oppressive conditions in their lives or negative relationships. These are the concerns which rehabilitation counselors will target in HIV/AIDS rehabilitation services.
