Being diagnosed with HIV/AIDS may trigger drug use, or risky sexual behavior as a result of substance abuse might have caused the individual to contract the illness. People who have HIV/AIDS, either on account of their substance abuse or as a pre-existing condition prior to their substance abuse problem, frequently require rehab services tailor-made to meet their specific needs and challenges. Some of these problems are physical in nature, because of the fact that substance abusers with HIV/AIDS very rarely look after themselves and take the proper medicines they need to preserve their health. Therefore, these individuals arrive to rehab in very poor physical shape and this will have to be addressed as a priority while also addressing other important issues. In addition to the obvious requirement to provide medical solutions while in treatment, those that have HIV/AIDS should also tackle more deeply rooted problems which prompted their drug or alcohol use. Often, individuals have circumstances within their lives which are purely environmental which may have triggered them to turn to alcohol or drugs, such as oppressive situations within their lives or negative relationships. These are the concerns which rehabilitation counselors will give attention to in HIV/AIDS rehabilitation services.
