Offering gender-specific treatment services has shown to be very helpful in circumstances where standard treatment facilities have not meet expectations, for example coping with situations in a women's life that are distinctive and distressing. Such difficulties may have to do with sexual abuse, physical trauma, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family and being a mother, or any other serious issues which are particular to women. Studies show that women could also get embroiled in drug use more readily than men, and so are more vulnerable to illness as a consequence of addiction problems than males consequently. Because of obligations in the home, women also tend to put off looking for and receiving treatment, a circumstance which can lead to disaster. With this in mind, rehabilitation services for women are created to ensure that a women's needs would be the focus and priority. Just like coed facilities, drug and alcohol treatment centers which provide treatment solutions to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a 1st step. After this step, counselors help women target both general and gender-specific problems who have induced their drug abuse. Women also may take advantage of the beneficial support from other female peers, and some centers that provide treatment services to women also provide client beds for their kids.
