Individuals who would like to maintain a lot of flexibility in their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab when they need treatment for drug or alcohol abuse. Outpatient rehab will allow for the rehabilitation client to participate in treatment services without the commitment one would ordinarily have to agree to in an inpatient or residential drug treatment center. This doesn't always work in the rehab client's favor however, particularly for those individuals who need to solve significant substance abuse issues. So even though an outpatient rehab may seem like an expedient option, it isn't for everyone. People who choose an outpatient rehab will generally show up at meetings and be a part of therapy and rehab services on a part-time basis daily or a few days each week. This is very helpful for those who have recently completed an even more extensive inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or upkeep step, or for someone with just a short history of drug use which is really a really small percentage of clients. For an individual with more severe addiction and dependency problems, inpatient or residential drug rehabilitation centers which offer treatment over a long-term basis will be the more advantageous rehab alternative.
