A group home for a person who has tbeen involved with alcohol and drug abuse is a place which provides continual support and help for individuals in recovery. A group home is typically for troubled youth, but in addition there are group homes for people with a mental health problem or who are experiencing behavioral trouble for example. Instead of sending those who are struggling with substance abuse or recovering from drug abuse to an orphanage, asylum or other similar place, a group home may help provide an appropriate environment to help maintain stability inside their lives and have counsel and assistance within reach around the clock. People who reside within a group home might be taking part in rehabilitation services whilst in residence, or may be taking actions to get their life setup outside the group home so that they can at some time live on their own not in the group home. For instance, a troubled youth who may have been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can try to get their GED or acquire work. A group home is not really a long-term or permanent option, but it is a practical short-term option for many who want to get their lives back together again.
