Offering gender-specific rehab services has shown to be very helpful in circumstances where traditional rehabilitation settings have not meet expectations, including dealing with situations in a women's life which are distinctive and distressing. Such troubles may relate to sexual abuse, physical abuse, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family and motherhood, or other serious issues which can be particular to women. Research shows that women can also get involved in drug abuse more easily than men, and so are more predisposed to sickness as a consequence of addiction issues than males consequently. Because of responsibilities in their home, women also tend to put off searching for and undergoing treatment, a situation which can lead to catastrophe. Being mindful of this, rehab services for women are designed so that a women's needs would be the focus and priority. Similar to coed centers, drug and alcohol rehab centers which provide rehabilitation solutions to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a 1st step. After this step, counselors help women concentrate on both basic and gender-specific issues which may have induced their drug abuse. Women also may take advantage of the beneficial support from their female peers, and several centers that provide treatment services to women also provide client beds for their young children.
