Being diagnosed with HIV/AIDS may set off drug or alcohol use, or risky sexual behavior because of abusing drugs may have caused the person to contract the disease. People who have HIV/AIDS, either because of their substance abuse or as a pre-existing problem before their drug abuse problem, often require rehabilitation services tailor-made to meet their particular needs and problems. A few of these problems are physical in nature, due to the fact that substance abusers with HIV/AIDS almost never take care of themselves and take the proper medications they need to maintain their own health. As a result, they arrive to rehabilitation in very poor physical shape and this will have to be addressed as a priority while also addressing other important issues. Aside from the obvious requirement to offer medical solutions whilst in treatment, those that have HIV/AIDS also have to tackle more deeply rooted problems which brought about their drug or alcohol use. Usually, individuals have conditions in their lives which are strictly environmental which may have triggered them to use drugs or alcohol, such as oppressive circumstances within their lives or detrimental relationships. These are the issues which rehab counselors will concentrate on as part of HIV/AIDS treatment services.
