Dual diagnosis rehabs are programs which provide rehabilitation to address both mental health and addiction concerns simultaneously. Dual diagnosis is a very common circumstance for people involved with substance abuse, as people with mental health problems frequently self medicate with drugs and alcohol to experience some type of temporary relief from their disorder. In a dual diagnosis rehab, rehabilitation professionals can help individuals through a thorough treatment plan all directed at restoring and replenishing mental, physical and emotional health as well as addressing drug abuse concerns. Providing a secure setting is key so that dual diagnosis clients can feel relaxed and remain undistracted from circumstances which may compromise their program and development. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral rehab which helps them develop more effective coping mechanisms so that they are better able to deal with life situations well when they depart dual diagnosis rehab instead of returning to drugs and alcohol as a possible option.
