Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has shown to be worthwhile in situations where standard rehabilitation settings have fallen short, like dealing with situations in the women's life that are distinctive and distressing. Such issues may pertain to sexual abuse, physical trauma, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and motherhood, or another significant issues that are specific to women. Research shows that women also can become involved in abusing drugs more easily than men, and so are more predisposed to sickness as a consequence of addiction issues than males as a result. Because of duties in their home, women also tend to postpone seeking out and receiving care for addiction, a situation which can be a catalyst for catastrophe. That said, rehab services for women are created so that a women's needs are the focus and priority. Just like coed rehabs, alcohol and drug rehab facilities which offer rehab services to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a first step. Following this step, counselors help women give attention to both general and gender-specific concerns who have brought on their drug or alcohol use.
