Offering gender-specific treatment services has shown to be worthwhile in circumstances where traditional treatment settings have not meet expectations, for example coping with situations inside a women's life that are unique and distressing. Such troubles may pertain to sexual abuse, physical trauma, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and being a mother, and other serious issues which can be specific to women. Studies show that women also can become involved in drug use more easily than men, and so are more vulnerable to illness due to drug abuse issues than males as a result. Due to obligations in their home, women also tend to put off seeking out and receiving treatment, a situation which can lead to disaster. That said, rehab services for women are created so that a women's needs are the focus and priority. Much like coed facilities, alcohol and drug rehab centers which offer rehabilitation services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a first step. After this step, counselors help women focus on both basic and gender specific problems who have brought on their drug or alcohol use. Women also benefit from the constructive support from other female peers, plus some facilities that offer treatment services to women offer client beds for their kids.
