Dual diagnosis rehabs are programs which deliver treatment to address both addiction and mental health issues at the same time. Dual diagnosis is a very prevalent circumstance for people involved with drug and alcohol abuse, as individuals with mental health issues frequently self medicate with drugs and alcohol to to feel some sort of short-term respite from their disorder. In a dual diagnosis rehab, rehabilitation counselors can help individuals through a comprehensive treatment plan all aimed at restoring and stabilizing mental, emotional and physical health while also addressing substance abuse issues. Providing a secure environment is key to ensure dual diagnosis clients can feel at ease and remain undistracted from circumstances that may cut across their treatment plan and advancement. Rehabilitation counselors will continue to work to recognize environmental factors in the client's life such as negative people in their lives or other things which need to be addressed in order for the individual to stay mentally stable and sober t when they depart dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral rehab which helps them develop more effective coping mechanisms so that they are better able to deal with life circumstances more effectively after they depart dual diagnosis rehab rather than returning to alcohol and drugs as an inferior option.
