Offering gender-specific treatment services has shown to be beneficial in situations where conventional rehab settings have fallen short, for example coping with situations within a women's life that are unique and traumatic. Such concerns may relate to sexual abuse, physical abuse, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and motherhood, or other really serious issues which are specific to women. Research has revealed that women may also get involved in abusing drugs more easily than men, and so are more vulnerable to illness as a consequence of addiction issues than males consequently. Because of duties in their home, women also tend to put off trying to find and receiving treatment, a situation which can be a catalyst for catastrophe. With this in mind, rehab services for women are created so that a women's needs would be the focus and priority. Much like coed centers, alcohol and drug treatment facilities that provide treatment services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a starting point. After this step, counselors help women concentrate on both common and gender specific concerns who have brought about their drug or alcohol use. Women also benefit from the beneficial support from other female peers, and several programs which offer rehab services to women also provide client beds for their children.
