LGBT stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are centers which address the unique needs of these clients. Individuals who are LGBT can feel alone, not understood, and considered socially depraved. This is often a very hard or painful existence, and leads many LGBT people to a life of drug use to numb these feelings. Somebody that is LGBT might not feel at ease inside a conventional treatment program amongst people who aren't experiencing the same challenges they may be experiencing in their lives. A LGBT program offers an environment which is free from judgment, where LGBT clients can be completely safe and comfortable divulging to their peers and rehab counselors problems which must be handled to enable them to get better. Rehab counselors in the LGBT rehab will help clients repair relationships with their family, in the case their loved ones disagree with their sexual preference as is often the case. This circumstance is an extremely common trigger for substance abuse, and is an example of an issue that will be resolved in treatment. LGBT clients often only want to be accepted in their lives, and rehabilitation will help them accept themselves and produce confidence so that they can lead a healthy life without any alcohol and drugs.
