LGBT stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are programs which address the unique needs of these clients. Individuals who are LGBT can often feel alone, misunderstood, and viewed as socially depraved. This is often a very difficult and painful way to live, and leads many LGBT individuals to a life of substance abuse to numb this pain. Someone who is LGBT may not feel relaxed in a conventional treatment program amongst people who aren't experiencing the same problems they may be experiencing in their lives. A LGBT program offers an environment which can be free of judgment, where LGBT clients can be completely safe and comfortable divulging to their peers and rehab counselors problems which have to be resolved so that they can get better. Treatment counselors in a LGBT rehab will help clients repair relationships with their family members, in the case their loved ones disagree with their sexual preference as is usually the case. This situation is certainly a common trigger for abusing drugs, and is also a good example of an issue that will be handled in rehab. LGBT clients often only want to be accepted in their lives, and rehabilitation will help them accept themselves and build confidence so that they can lead a wholesome life clear of alcohol and drugs.
