Individuals who want to maintain a lot of flexibility in their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab if they need treatment for drug or alcohol abuse. Outpatient rehab makes it possible for the rehab client to participate in rehabilitation services without the commitment one would normally have to agree to within an inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility. This doesn't often work in the rehabilitation client's favor however, specifically those individuals who need to address substantial substance abuse issues. So even though an outpatient rehab might appear to be an opportune option, it isn't for everyone. People who do decide on an outpatient rehab will typically attend meetings and take part in counseling and treatment services on a part-time basis every day or a few days a week. This can be very helpful for those who have recently completed an even more extensive inpatient or residential program as a good aftercare or maintenance step, and someone with just a short history of drug use which is really a really small number of clients. For somebody with more significant addiction and dependency issues, inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehab centers which provide rehab over a long-term basis will be the more advantageous rehabilitation alternative.
