Offering gender-specific treatment services has shown to be beneficial in circumstances where standard treatment facilities have not meet expectations, including coping with situations inside a women's life which are distinctive and distressing. Such issues may pertain to sexual abuse, physical trauma, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and motherhood, and other significant issues which can be particular to women. Research has revealed that women may also get embroiled in drug abuse more easily than men, and so are more vulnerable to sickness due to addiction issues than males as a result. Because of obligations in their home, women also tend to put off looking for and receiving care for addiction, a circumstance which can lead to catastrophe. With this in mind, rehab services for women are designed to ensure a women's needs are the focus and priority. Similar to coed programs, drug and alcohol rehab programs which provide rehabilitation solutions to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a first step. After this step, counselors help women give attention to both common and gender specific problems which may have prompted their substance abuse. Women also benefit from the positive support from other female peers, and several centers that offer rehabilitation services to women provide client beds for their young children.
