Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has shown to be very useful in situations where conventional rehab facilities have not meet expectations, such as coping with situations in a women's life that happen to be unique and traumatic. Such concerns may have to do with sexual abuse, physical abuse, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family and motherhood, or other serious issues that are particular to women. Research has shown that women can also get embroiled in drug use more easily than men, and are more predisposed to illness due to drug abuse issues than males because of this. Because of obligations in their home, women also tend to postpone searching for and undergoing treatment, a situation which can lead to catastrophe. Being mindful of this, rehab services for women are designed so that a women's needs would be the focus and priority. Similar to coed rehabs, drug rehabilitation programs which offer rehabilitation services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a starting point. After this step, counselors help women target both standard and gender-specific issues who have brought about their substance abuse. Women also utilize the constructive support from other female peers, plus some centers which provide rehabilitation services to women also provide client beds for her kids.
