LGBT means lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are programs which address the unique needs of these clients. Individuals who are LGBT can often feel alone, misunderstood, and considered socially depraved. This is sometimes a very difficult and painful existence, and leads many LGBT people to a life of drug use to numb these feelings. Somebody who is LGBT may not feel at ease inside a traditional rehab facility amongst folks who aren't experiencing the same challenges they may be experiencing of their lives. A LGBT program provides an environment which can be totally free of judgment, where LGBT clients can be completely safe and comfortable revealing to their peers and rehab counselors issues which need to be resolved in order to get better. Rehab counselors in a LGBT rehab will help clients mend relationships with their family members, in the case their family disagree with their sexual preference as is generally the case. This situation is definitely a frequent trigger for drug use, and is also a good example of an issue that will be handled in treatment. LGBT clients often would like to be accepted in their lives, and rehab will help them accept themselves and build confidence to enable them to lead a wholesome life free of alcohol and drugs.
