Criminal justice client rehabs can be considered as being a significantly better option than jail time or heavy fines for individuals who have been convicted of any kind of alcohol or drug related crime. For example, someone who has been found guilty of driving drunk of drugs or alcohol may qualify to obtain rehabilitation services for his or her problem instead of serving time in prison. The judge might even order that the individual receive rehabilitation, either alone or in addition to other sentencing. New offenders in particular in many cases are given the ability to select a criminal justice client rehab instead of other sentencing, and it is highly recommended that they take advantage of it when it is a choice. The theory behind criminal justice client rehabs is it is far more effective and efficient to invest time and energy into rehab than punishment. Much research has been done to find out how effective this method is on recidivism rates, i.e. if the criminal justice client returns or not to criminal justice system following treatment. The signs and indicators seem quite positive, and criminal justice clients who do take part in rehab have a much better probability of remaining out of the judicial system following treatment.
