Dual diagnosis rehabs are programs which provide rehab to address both addiction and mental health issues at the same time. Dual diagnosis is an extremely common situation for people involved in drug and alcohol abuse, as people with mental health problems frequently self medicate with drugs and alcohol to experience some form of short-term respite from their disorder. In a dual diagnosis rehab, rehab counselors can help individuals using a comprehensive treatment plan all targeted at restoring and replenishing mental, physical and emotional health while also dealing with substance abuse problems. Offering a safe setting is key so that dual diagnosis clients can feel at ease and remain undistracted from circumstances which could cut across their treatment plan and progress. Rehab counselors will work to identify environmental issues in the client's life such as negative people in their lives or other things which have to be addressed in order for the individual to stay mentally stable and sober t when they depart dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also reap the benefits of behavioral rehab that helps them develop more effective coping mechanisms so they are better able to handle life circumstances more effectively if they leave dual diagnosis rehab as opposed to turning to drugs as a possible solution.
