Hearing impaired individuals tend to have a greater probability of drug abuse issues due to their impairment, and rehabilitation services should be available which serves their needs. In the first place, detecting a substance abuse problem among the hearing impaired can be a challenge, as these individuals may make an attempt to hide their problem as a result of social stigmas that come with drug abuse. However, drug rehab counselors who provide rehabilitation to hearing impaired individuals see the challenges that these clients face. ASL rehabilitation services are of course a necessity, as are rehab services which address the unique challenges that hearing impaired individuals encounter. Group therapy gives a venue for important peer support to ensure rehabilitation clients can know they are not on their own, and that there is hope to handle their problem with alcohol and drugs. Individual therapy services could be more tailor-made for each person to ensure that their own personal problems can be handled in rehabilitation.
