LGBT means lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are programs which address the unique needs of these clients. Those who are LGBT can feel alone, misunderstood, and considered socially depraved. This may be a very difficult or painful existence, and leads many LGBT individuals to a life of drug use to numb this pain. Somebody that is LGBT may not feel at ease in a traditional rehabilitation program amongst individuals who aren't experiencing the same problems they may be experiencing in their lives. A LGBT facility offers an environment which is free of judgment, where LGBT clients can be completely comfortable and safe revealing to their peers and treatment counselors problems which need to be resolved to enable them to recover. Rehab counselors in a LGBT rehab can help clients fix relationships with their family, in the case their family disagree with their sexual choice as is usually the case. This situation is an extremely common trigger for drug use, and is also a good example of an issue that will be resolved in rehabilitation. LGBT clients often would like to be accepted within their lives, and rehabilitation will help them accept themselves and build confidence in order to lead a healthy life free of alcohol and drugs.
